UPCOMING EVENT: The Art of Harold Cromwell

Please join us for a fascinating discussion about Harold Cromwell with special guests Michael McCormack and Fabiyino Germain-Bajowa, Assistant Curators at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.

Born in the African Nova Scotia community of Weymouth Falls, folk artist Harold Cromwell (1919-2008) was descended from Black Loyalists who settled in the area in 1783. Hospitalized in Debert after serving in WWII, Cromwell began sketching using pencil and ballpoint pen materials given to him by nurses. His work depicts rural life with humour in early 20th century, NS. Cromwell sold his work at Upper Clements Park and the Annapolis Royal Farmers’ and Traders’ market.
